Raw Food Diet Has Transformed my Life

I was raised in Belgium on a Mediterranean Diet. We came to the states in 1990 for three weeks to find an agent for my art work and eighteen years later we are still here.

I ate a macrobiotic, rice base and sushi diet.  My brother was a raw foodest and one day we went to a Brussels raw food restaurant. I was so surprised not one was talking – just chewing.

Every year I would go for a medical checkup. On my last checkup in the fall of 2007, I was told to go see a urologist because my PSA range was 4.3. The doctor told me to do a biopsy and I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. The recommendation was surgery, radiation and cry-ovation or I could do nothing and wait.

I wanted second opinions so I talked to various other urologists and surgeons and they all said “they” had the best plan. My wife, Michelle, remembered a friend of hers who had gone to Hippocrates in West Palm Beach. This is where you learn the benefits of raw foods and a raw lifestyle. I also enhanced that learning with other facets of raw food protocols by taking Joel Chudnow’s health classes at Hillsborough Community College. Joel invited Michelle and I to attend the Back To Eden support meeting and potluck at the Hallelujah Acres Lifestyle Center in Plant City with Dave and Sherry Orcutt. We like Dave and Sherry a lot – we believe in the good work they are doing so we now volunteer once a week at the Lifestyle Center and have learned a lot through that process.

Since October 6, 2007, I have lost 42 lbs and my hair is turning darker! I am looking forward to having my PSA done again in May, and I’m expecting that as my body adjusts to all the nutrient dense foods and juices I am putting into it, that I will see the benefits of this new lifestyle in my test results. I don’t live as if I am on a diet – this is a lifestyle change. Rightfully or wrongfully, I have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. This disease has given me an opportunity to transform my life and to access a lifestyle that is beneficial to me. It has created an access to a different kind of community and people that has been empowering to me.
