Sunshine and Vitamin-D

How does Sunshine Fit into the Hallelujah Diet?

No one wants skin cancer, and no one wants wrinkled aged skin! We go out in the sun, we smear ourselves with sunscreen (wonder how many skin irritants and carcinogens are in them) and we scorch our skin – all for the beauty of that golden glow.

Sunshine

But God created sunshine – how can anything so wonderful be so harmful to our health? It all goes back to obtaining TOO MUCH – that is where the problem lies.

Here some facts to consider:  In the proper amounts – sunlight is a blessing from God.

  • It warms the earth – It makes things grow – It’s an efficient germ killer
  • Gives the skin a healthy glow and makes it smooth and pliable
  • Moderately tanned skin is more resistant to infections and sunburns
  • It lifts the spirits of most people, producing a cheerful sense of well-being (that’s why we moved here from Massachusetts)
  • Sunshine also plays a crucial role in helping to prevent osteoporosis.  The body is made to manufacture vitamin D by the action of sunlight on the skin.  This enables the body to utilize the alcium essential for building healthy bones.
  • It helps promote better sleep
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Alleviates pain from swollen arthritic joints
  • May lower elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels
  • An extra hour of sunlight everyday may positively affect your energy, sleep, and even PMS

A high-fat diet, so common in today’s society, significantly increases a persons risk.  It’s the repeated sunburns and even repeated deep tanning that gradually destroys the skins elasticity and its oil glands, producing wrinkling and premature aging.  Plenty of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables can help protect us from many types of cancers.  It’s important to emphasize that most of the studies showing the cancer-protective effects of antioxidants have involved people who were getting their vitamins from natural foods, not man-made vitamin supplements.

Dietary choices can affect our chances of getting skin cancer.  And did you know that sunshine could actually help prevent cancer?  People who get adequate sunshine are less likely to develop cancers because the vitamin D appear to suppress the growth of cancers already present.

A WISE use of sunlight can be extremely beneficial – God, in the beginning, created light and He said, “Let there be light.” And there was light.  And God saw the light and that it was good.”  If we follow God’s natural laws and seek to make wise use of sunlight – its one of heaven’s nicest gifts.
