Once Upon a Time There Was No Multiple Sclerosis

What is MS? You’ve just had something strange happen to you. You’ve lost your balance, your legs seemed to freeze up, your vision is impaired, you are experiencing a strange tingling and weakness that wasn’t there before and you now wobble instead of walk. You make the nervous call to the doctor and he wants to see you immediately. He examines you, looks in your eyes and says, “Ahh.” You stand frozen in immeasurable fear as it sweeps around each word he says. Your heart is pumping so fast as more terror grips you in your mind as you imagine all the worse case scenarios. Your mind is spinning as you wait for the verdict of misery and doom as he very calmly tells you that you have Multiple Sclerosis. Dear God – How can I? Why me? What did I do to deserve this? Your body grows more numb, the room spins as you nearly faint as you allow the bad news to sink in.

Once upon a time, there was no MS! In the 1830’s two doctors from Europe started writings of a “new” disease. The first clinical report was written by Jean Cruveillier, professor of pathological anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Paris in 1835. During routine autopsies, he observed some “brown patches” in the central nervous system and described them to the medical community.

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that strikes only the central nervous system, which consists of the brain and spinal cord. As the brain sends and receives signals, the spinal cord funnels them in and out, to and from different parts of the body through a network of nerves. The nerves are surrounded by insulating matter called myelin - a soft, white, fatty substance that forms a protective sheath for the nerves. The myelin sheath, which develops in the first ten years of life, insulates the nerve fibers and helps conduct signals through the body.

MS is a disease where the myelin breaks down and is replaced by scar tissue. It is an auto-immune reaction (where the immune system actually attacks itself). This demyelination can slow down or even block the flow of signals to and from the central nervous system to the rest of the body, impairing such functions as vision, strength, or coordination. One important characteristic of myelin, is that it can repair itself. This ability, called remyelination, is not commonly recognized by the medical world or people with MS. But God is so good to have built into us the ability to recover and rebuild so we can experience renewed health.

A.D.A.M.

We don’t really know the cause of MS although there are quite a few theories. We do know that it is an acquired disease – you are not born with it. Evidence also suggests that people who live in the colder regions are more susceptible to the disease and is very rare in subtropical and tropical areas – the farther away from the equator, the higher the incidence of MS. It is also surmised that exposure to MS occurs before age eighteen followed by a latency period (before symptoms appear) of twenty-one years. Cruveilhier’s original theory attributed the disease to the suppression of sweat but present-day theories are increasingly convincing. At this point in medical history, scientists acknowledge eleven basic causes of all disease.

Man has many thories but the good news is (as our three testimonies reveal) that our bodies can be rebuilt; we can rebuild our immune systems and our myelin sheath and we can live symptom free lives. Hallelujah!!! Thank you Rev. George Malkmus!

EDITORIAL COMMENT FROM DAVE & SHERRY ORCUTT

We are all human beings and with that comes the privilege of CHOICE. No one chooses to be sick – or do they??? We have dedicated our lives to this cause – to help educate and empower people with the knowledge and skills they need to change their circumstances. We have found that people find it very difficult to believe that foods may be the biggest culprit in our illness, so on the other hand, they find it difficult to believe that diet and lifestyle changes can make such a big difference in our health outcome.

The medical community offers people with MS the option of taking toxic drugs for the rest of their lives as they watch their health decline and their body deteriorate – slowly sometimes. Where is the quality of life in that choice?

The alternative choice – The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle – gives our body the nutrient dense foods and juices its needs to bring about conditions conducive to healing. It sounds so simple and actually, it is! The three testimonies above are from people who dove in, educated themselves and came to the conclusion that changing their lifestyle was the better choice – and they received more quality to their lives as a result of their decision.

What holds people back? We believe mostly “change and misinformation.” People are uncomfortable with changing what they have always done. It’s too hard, it’s costly they say. We will disagree very strongly on both points. The change is only an adjustment, the lifestyle is actually very simple, and we have saved a tremendous amount of money due to the fact that we don’t need medical attention, we don’t need drugs and we shop the fruit & vegetable aisle in the market, the toilet paper aisle and occasionally the frozen food section.

The most important part for Dave and I is that we feel we have honored God with our choices. We have a clean “temple” for Jesus to reside in – we feel more spiritually connected as a result of clean living and clean foods. If you cannot do this for yourselves – than do it for our Lord – He will bless you for all your efforts and you too can achieve quality of life – instead of disease, sickness, illness and eventually an unpleasant death due to disease or complications of medications.

If you are struggling to do this on your own, invest in your health by spending a week with us at the Hallelujah Acres Lifestyle Center in Plant City, Florida. The week will change your life, your outlook, and we will help you make the decisions necessary to improve your health. We will teach you how simple these changes can be and we can change your perception of what we actually eat. The food is delicious, has a huge and endless variety and is actually quite simple to prepare. Another misconception is that we spend so much time in the kitchen. The raw foods we consume are not time consuming but rather the cooked foods which take more time. We show you very simple ways to meal plan, food shop and give you life skills that ultimately show you the way to more quality of life.

It’s your CHOICE! We are not victims of a genetically messed up gene pool. We are marvelously and wonderfully made says our Lord. But God designed our bodies to work and need nutrients to perform properly – MS is an autoimmune disease. We need to REBUILD our immune system. It is our prayer that the testimonies above will encourage you into action!

Did you know?

That in the U.S. the number of MS cares almost triple and are found above the thirty-seventh parallel (running from Santa Cruz, California, to Newport, News, Virginia), as are found below it.

The average patient sees at least eight doctors before an MS diagnosis is made.

One of the contributing causes of MS is poor food assimilation and toxemia from poor bowel health, lead or heavy metal poisoning, hypoglycemia, B vitamin deficiency or food allergies or Candida albicans overgrowth.

Sunlight and vitamin D influences the remission of MS
