Children and the Hallelujah Diet
Excerpts taken from Pregnancy, Children and the Hallelujah Diet by Olin Idol, N.D., C.N.C., H and Hallelujah Kids by Julie Wandling
The most vital concern for today’s parent is the health and well-being of their child. For generations, parents relied on their instincts and the experience of their extended family for the care and rearing of their children. Now more than ever, parents are looking for practical, holistic solutions integrated with current research that speak directly to their pediatric questions and concerns.
“From the very first conception and birth, God’s plan for the procreation of the human race has been fulfilled through the God-given desire of a couple to marry, conceive, give birth, and rear healthy, godly children who would then do likewise. Sadly, however, we find ourselves living in an age when many couples have found themselves unable to be fulfilled with the blessings of having children. We find ourselves exposed to innumerable environmental hazards and toxins, mercury amalgam fillings in our teeth, damaging childhood vaccines, nutritionally deficient food sources, and a body so overloaded with internal toxicity that it is unable to reproduce.”
John Robbins says that, “Tests done at several major universities have found that nearly 25% of today’s college students are sterile. This is a terrifying trend. Only thirty-five years ago, the sterility rate was less than one-half of one percent.”
There is a new trend in the Hallelujah Lifestyle living. We are seeing more and more young families coming through our Lifestyle Center. They are watching their parents or grandparents die of horrific diseases in the hands of the best known medical procedures and they choose to not want that for themselves or their family. One QUICK look at the Hallelujah Diet and people think it is drastic or radical. But is it not radical to overlook the fact that God would not have left us here without a dietary plan that would best suit the creation He made?
When disaster strikes, we are too often pressed and driven to make decisions based on fear or peer pressure rather than on knowledge. When we are in crisis mode, it is very difficult to take the time to get educated. The medical community, our family, friends and peers are putting pressure on us to do this or do that. Life can be on the line! Our recommendation is that you educate yourself PRIOR to crisis and to start taking control of your health and lifestyle choices NOW before a crisis rears its ugly head.
We all know that the first year of a child’s life show tremendous growth for which a high nutritive intake is essential. Babies under eight or nine months cannot tolerate an unhealthy diet. A good diet is so closely tied to normal child development in life that undernourishment usually shows up very quickly.
After the child is weaned and up to about three years of age, the child’s eating patterns focus around those of the family. The parent has control over the child’s diet. This is the time to begin reinforcing good eating habits. Unfortunately, most adults do not know that they are eating a disease causing diet and they certainly do not realize that they are instilling this pattern of bad health choices into their children. Most people take better care of their cars and their pets, than they do in taking care of themselves. This is due to the lack of knowledge of not understanding the impact that our food choices have on our health. We all know that a chocolate cake is not as nourishing as a salad, but when it comes to applying that principal to our lives, the chocolate cake tends to win out because we do not see its harmful effects right away.
Our children need direction and it needs to start with the parents. If a child sees their parents choosing a healthy food and choosing it with purpose, they will tend to follow our example. When a child gets sick, we can gently remind them that when too much sugar is consumed, our immune system is weakened and that is why they became ill.
What if your child is already ten years old – or a teenager. How can you possibly change their eating habits now??? It can seem like an overwhelming task to change a child’s diet from the standard fast food, junk food diet to a healthy, living foods diet but it is possible and parents all over are doing it. Realize that it will be difficult to change them to a 75% to 85% raw plant based diet, but every step in the right direction will reap benefits. Here are a few suggestions on how to implement dietary lifestyle changes into your family.
- Stop buying junk food – if it is not in the house, it is less likely thought about. Start buying healthier choices and limit, if not eliminate, the consumption of chips, cookies, candies, processed snacks, etc. These should not be a daily option.
- Educate your child as to why its important to change their diet. Teach at their age level. Point out the benefits of the healthier choices and how it will help them in their school studies, their sports and their health.
When a child is sick, gently remind them of the choices they have recently made. Tell them the benefits of drinking carrot juice and BarleyMax and how living foods and juices will help to rebuild their “sick-controls” (immune system) in their body. Buy a couple books that will help to teach them about their food choices. (Hallelujah Kids, Chelsea’s Secrets) Our children will become aware that the kids they play with who eat poor diets are the ones who are out sick so often. They will associate their good habits with their wellness.
The Immune System – Equip your army’s soldiers to beat the bad guys. (All kids recognize that there is a good guy/bad guy theme to all the stories they read). White blood cells are our army to defend us against the bad guys like germs, bacteria, and viruses. When we eat sugar, it makes the soldiers in our army go to sleep, so there’s no one there to protects us from the bad guys. When we eat good foods like fruits, vegetables, fresh juices, it’s like giving our soldiers ammunition. The good things in good foods stop the bad guys. Drinking water helps the soldiers move faster and get around more easily.
- Involve your kids in the food prep process. All kids like activities. Get them involved in making the carrot juice – make ice cream with them with the Champion, make fruit smoothies.
- Make this FUN! That includes for you, as parents! This is a new journey with God – a journey that will reap the benefits of the healthier choices we make. This is a wonderful way of life – it is not a diet of deprivation like so many others out there, it is plentiful diet, with colorful, awesome food that God has provided. Get the kids involved in classes that teach about health.
- Keep tasty snacks around or in the refrigerator. Carob Coconuts Balls are a great way to keep the chocolate attack at bay.
- Instead of basing your meals around the “meat of the day” come up with new and inventive salads and new cooked food dishes that please the palate. Make a healthy pizza, a healthy lasagna or pasta dish, applesauce, and great inventive desserts. This way the kids will start to realize that these foods taste good and they will eventually prefer them.
- Create an attitude of excitement about this new lifestyle! If our children see that we are excited, then they will eventually be excited. Create little games for the younger ones, give the veggies names and learn about the benefits of each fruit and veggie. (Chelsea’s Secrets is a great aid in this).
Buy the child his own cookbook. (Hallelujah Kids) Boys and girls alike enjoy creating, exploring and developing new things. The kitchen is a perfect environment to teach them how a VitaMix, Food Processor, and Juicer can make fun foods for the family to enjoy together. Teach kids to eat their fruits and vegetables A to Z. Be creative and learn together.
- Let the kids read food labels at the store. Teach them to not eat things they cannot pronounce. We are not made to live on chemicals made in a laboratory.
- Minimize power struggles. If you want your children to drink a juice in the morning or eat some salad at dinner, make it clear that they will need to finish that item before any other food is going to be had. “When you’re done with your juice, …..” “When you’ve had your salad, ……," etc. You take control and they will follow.
- Create Green Slime Smoothies or Hulk Smoothies – It’s difficult to get those greens into our children (which helps to Alkalize the body). Green smoothies with clever little names (Ex: Kermit the Frog pudding) will make kids giggle and eat! Take two collard greens (stems removed) , ½ pineapple, and 2 mango’s and blend in a VitaMix (or high powered blender – if you do not have one you could blend all of this mixture in a food processor and get similar results). Viola – a fun snack!
Even our children suffer from unnecessary ailments and diseases. If we concentrate our efforts into teaching our children about living foods and juices we will save them from ill health and we will be instilling in them – life saving techniques and abundant health for their future.
